Start with the email account you use for password resets. Review recovery contacts, use a unique password, and turn on multi-factor authentication where available.

Unexpected messages

Verify a request before responding.

Pause if a message urges you to act quickly. Contact the person or organization using a known number or address instead of the details in the message.

Agree on how to verify an urgent call.

Choose a private verification phrase and a known callback number with your family. Check independently before sending money or personal information, even if a voice sounds familiar.
